Chevrolet Classic Water Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the water pump on a 2.2L L61 engine on Chevrolet Classic?
    A:
A 2.2l l61 engine Water Pump replacement requires using the Water Pump holding tool (J 43651) as your essential tool. When handling an automatic transmission vehicle start with the Exhaust Manifold removal before draining the cooling system. First elevate the vehicle, then unscrew the tire and wheel from the right front along with the front fender liner. Insert the Water Pump holding tool (J 43651) onto the Water Pump sprocket. Secure this tool using the access plate bolts into the engine front cover. Separate the Water Pump from its sprocket through bolt removal, then free the engine block and engine front cover respectively from Water Pump hardware. First remove the Water Pump feed socket from the Thermostat Housing before taking out both bolts from the engine block and finally extracting the Water Pump itself. Mount a threaded stud onto the Water Pump sprocket then place the new Water Pump onto it accordingly. Fasten the Water Pump onto the engine block using 2 bolts and tighten them to 20 nm before adding the feed pipe together with engine front cover components while keeping all bolt torques at 20 nm. Secure the Water Pump sprocket with two bolts and take out the threaded stud. Reinsert a bolt to tighten it to 10 nm (89 inch lbs). Place the access plate on the Water Pump sprocket Timing Cover before adding bolts that should tighten to 10 nm (18 inch pounds). Replace the front fender liner and install the right front wheel before putting back the tire and the exhaust if used. Finally, fill the cooling system.
