Chevrolet Cobalt Radiator fan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Fan Shroud and Radiator Fan for the 2.2L (L61) and 2.4L (LE5) engines on Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The first step to change the Radiator fan and shroud on 2.2l (L61) and 2.4l (LE5) engines is disconnecting the Radiator fan electrical connector before removing the Radiator fan wire from the fan shroud. The Radiator cooling fan assembly can be extracted by first lifting the vehicle and next reaching under the fan shroud to unsnap the retaining hardware before moving the entire assembly away from the Radiator. Proceed to unsnap the air dam push-in retainers and air dam and then remove the right and left engine splash shield to Radiator mount push-in retainers. The procedure requires users to support the Radiator and condenser while moving the Radiator and condenser forward for Radiator fan assembly removal from the vehicle. Reposition the Radiator and condenser forward to complete assembly by fitting the Radiator fan assembly inside the vehicle with correct placement of upper Radiator mounts. Install the Radiator while checking that upper Radiator mount pins fit correctly with corresponding mount positions. Fasten the lower Radiator mounts and their brackets by applying torque of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). The right and left engine splash shield goes over the Radiator mount push-in retainers followed by installation of the air dam using push-in retainers. Snapping the fan shroud onto the Radiator becomes possible by aligning its retaining features to the Radiator before pulling down on the Radiator fan assembly. Set the vehicle to its lowest position while reattaching the Radiator fan electrical connection and putting the fan wire to the fan shroud.
