The Water Pump located in Chevrolet Cobalt car plays a significant role of pumping the coolant from the radiator towards the engine to absorb the heat produced by the burning of fuel. Almost all Cobalt models employ a belt-driven water pump, but there can be Electric Water Pumps on the latest Cobalt models. These pumps are usually of aluminium and used a rotating shaft with bearings, pulleys, impellers to provide high coolant circulation in the engine. Signs that can be attributed to a bad water pump are the presence of oil, regular squealing or unusual noises from the pump due to the deterioration of bearings and, at last, overheating of the car's engine. There are performance water pumps that can produce high coolant flow and has low power demand as compared to the regular water pumps suited for high-performance engines. There are also electric water pumps without any parasitic power loss and which can be placed at different positions more flexibly.

Chevrolet Cobalt Water Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the water pump (LNF) (2.0L) on Chevrolet Cobalt?
    A:
Begin by lifting and stabilizing your vehicle before the replacement work starts. Unbolt and pull out the right engine shield to access the Water Pump access plate and pump seal before disposing them. Release Water Pump fluid by removing the bottom plug. Twist the Thermostat Housing and radiator outlet pipe free while you slowly pull them from the back part of Water Pump housing. Attach the j 43651 (Water Pump Holding Tool) correctly in position before screwing its bolts into the Water Pump sprocket threads. Position the Water Pump holding tool onto the front cover assembly through its access cover bolts. Take off the Water Pump sprocket bolts from both sides and in between the pump then unscrew the two front bolts and two rear bolts. Extract the pump alone while discarding the rubber seal. Put a brand new o-ring seal on the Water Pump before adding the new component and create an alignment guide using an m 6 m x 6 mm stud. Position the Water Pump against the engine block and tighten it manually by hand at both front and rear bolts. Utilize the Water Pump sprocket bolts to install three inner pieces then take out guide pin and put in final bolt after parts are set in their positions. Secure Water Pump bolts at the front and rear with 25 nm torque and the Water Pump sprocket bolts with 10 nm torque. Install the Water Pump access plate and bolts with new seal while tightening the bolts to 10 nm (89 lb in) force. Replace the j 43651 (Water Pump Holding Tool). Use new o-rings on the radiator outlet and secure the Thermostat Housing while replugging the right engine shield. Install the Water Pump access plate and bolts with a new seal before lowering the vehicle. When refilling the coolant system check for any fluid leaks.
