2008 Chevrolet Cobalt Water Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the water pump on 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The first step to replace a Water Pump involves taking off the Thermostat Housing and Water Pump access plate on the front cover plus removing the right-hand fender liner. To access the Water Pump fluid drain the lower plug at its base. Secure the Water Pump holding tool (J 43651) to work on the sprocket and chain while servicing. Make sure the holding tool connects securely with the access cover bolts. Unwind the three screws to the inner Water Pump sprocket before removing it with the two Water Pump bolts. Then take out the remaining two rear bolts to extract the Water Pump and dispose of the o-ring seal. Use a fresh o-ring seal for the Water Pump installation and build an m6 m x 6 mm guide pin using an m6 thread to make sure the parts line up during installation. Put the Water Pump against the engine block and apply hand torque to the bolts. Install the inner Water Pump sprocket bolts and tighten them to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) while removing the guide pin. After wrapping the Water Pump sprocket bolts at 10 n.m you can take away the Water Pump holding tool and replace the matching components while tightening them at 10 n.m.
