Chevrolet Cobalt Fan Shroud Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Fan Shroud and Radiator Fan on 2.2L (L61) and 2.4L (LE5) engines on Chevrolet Cobalt?
    A:
The procedure for Radiator fan replacement begins with disconnection of electrical connectors and Radiator fan wire removal from the fan shroud. This process applies to both 2.2l (L61) and 2.4l (LE5) engines. Support the vehicle while raising it up before removing the Radiator fan assembly from the Radiator by popping out its retaining features through fan shroud pressure until the assembly moves clear of the Radiator. Remove the air dam push-in retainers and air dam along with the right and left engine splash shield to Radiator mount push-in retainers from the system. Using tools remove the lower Radiator mount and brackets and supporting the Radiator and condenser then swing the Radiator forwards to uninstall the Radiator fan assembly from the vehicle. Install the Radiator fan assembly by adjusting the Radiator and condenser forward before correctly positioning the upper Radiator mounts. After raising the Radiator you must check that upper mount pins fit their locations before installing the lower Radiator mounts and brackets with bolts torqued to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). The right and left engine splash shield to Radiator mount push-in retainers must be installed first before putting the air dam into its push-in retainers. Die the Radiator fan shroud retaining features against the Radiator then gently pull down on the Radiator fan assembly until it engages with the Radiator. Drop the vehicle before reconnecting the Radiator fan electrical cable and fixing the wire to the fan shroud.
