Chevrolet Express 1500 A/C Condenser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in the HVAC system on Chevrolet Express 1500?
A: A proper HVAC replacement process begins with collecting the refrigerant from the A/C system before condenser installation. Start by taking off the grille while moving forward with the discharge hose retaining nut removal and discharge hose extraction from the condenser. Next step is to extract both the evaporator hose retaining nut and evaporator hose from the condenser. The installation starts by disconnecting the outside air temperature sensor's electrical connector and removing its bracket bolt before removing the bracket. Next remove the sealing washers from the hoses then the retaining bolts from the condenser before pulling out the condenser unit and covering its fittings. During condenser replacement add PAG oil in the specified amount to the unit before you remove each condenser fitting plug to insert new sealing washers. Secure the condenser in position then fasten its retaining bolts at 9 N.m torque (80 lb in). Thorough installation of the outside air temperature bracket requires bolt application followed by the outside air temperature sensor electrical connector reconnection and evaporator hose connecting to the condenser while using a retaining nut that reaches 16 N.m (12 lb ft) torque. The discharge hose receives installation at the condenser by using the discharge hose nut while tightening it to 16 N.m (12 lb ft). The A/C system must be evacuated then recharged before using the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) to conduct a fitting leak test.
