To change valve lifters first you would need to take off the Cylinder Head and gasket, also the valve lifter guide bolts. Next, pull out the valve lifters and guide, being mindful that some of the valve lifters, are stuck because of gum or varnish deposits; use valve lifter remover (J3049-A) or a similar tool if applicable. After taking the valve lifters out of the guide, order or label to insure proper reinserts. Remove and clean the valve lifters after they are removed then install them. In reusing valve lifters, be sure that they re installed to their original positions. Lubricate the outer surfaces of the valve lifters and the inner surfaces of the lifter guides with clean engine oil, lift the valve lifters and insert them with the flat part at the top into the flat part in the lifter guide bore and push part way into the bore until they will fit no further. Install the valve lifters and guide to the engine block followed by installing the valve lifter guide bolt that one should tighten to 12 nm( 106 inch lbs.). Finally, install the Cylinder Head and a gasket.
