  Q: How to service and repair the Shift Interlock Solenoid on Chevrolet Express 1500?

  A: All servicing procedures for the Shift Interlock Solenoid require the SIR system to be disabled according to proper safety protocols. First, position the shift lever clevis into neutral position while removing the knee bolster from the vehicle. Disconnect the electrical connector prior to using a small screwdriver which carefully separates the A/T shift lock control actuator from both the steering column jacket assembly and cable shift cam assembly for removal. The A/T shift lock control actuator should be firmly mounted onto both the steering column jacket assembly and cable shift cam assembly before reattaching the electrical connector. Pull the tab on the adjuster block side then press on the block to compress the spring while moving the block far from the actuator until it is properly adjusted by locking with the tab insertion. Thoroughly check the actuator for its ability to both secure the shift lever clevis into park and allow the vehicle to shift from park with brake pedal pressure and for proper electrical function. The adjustment of the actuator should be checked then the knee bolster can be reinstalled along with activating the SIR system.
