Chevrolet K3500 Power Steering Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Power Steering Reservoir on Chevrolet K3500?
A: The first step in servicing power steering reservoirs requires complete drain of power steering fluid from the pump. The first step is to remove both pump mounting studs and the connector and fitting assembly. The procedure for removing the variable assist steering actuator together with its retaining ring becomes available through appropriate replacement guidelines. You must remove the o-ring seal from the connector and fitting assembly before taking away the reservoir assembly from the pump housing assembly. Next remove o-ring seals as well as the magnet before cleaning the magnet. No tool should be inserted into the Power Steering Pump housing to check the welch plug for damage. If the plug shows deformation or leaves the housing, replace the pump housing unit immediately. The assembly process demands new o-ring seals which should receive power steering fluid lubrication before permanently securing them to the pump housing assembly. Begin by inserting the magnet into the pump housing assembly and next you must install the reservoir assembly to the magnet before adding the o-ring seal. The replacement requires a proper installation of the connector and fitting assembly together with the variable assist steering actuator and retaining ring following procedure guidelines. The pump housing requires installation of mounting studs which need to be fastened at 58 nm (43 ft. Lbs.) while the connector and fitting assembly should reach 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.).
