Chevrolet K3500 Steering Angle Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace and Center a Steering Angle Sensor on Chevrolet K3500?
    A:
Before anything else, turn off the sir system and take the Steering Column out of the car. Remove the following pieces from the steering shaft: steering shaft seal (7), sensor retainer (6), Steering Angle Sensor (5), two lower spring retainers (4), lower bearing spring (3), lower bearing seat (2) and adapter and bearing assembly (1). To install, first attach the adapter and bearing assembly to the steering shaft, then put on the lower bearing seat, spring, two retainer clips and the Steering Angle Sensor. After that, place the sensor retainer and steering shaft seal, turn on the sir system and return the Steering Column to its original position. Always make sure the front of the sensor (1) connector is on the right side and find out the kind of sensor so you know how to remove it. For reuse, you do not have to adjust any sensor alignment before you remove it. For a new sensor, look for a pin; make sure the sensor is correctly installed before removing the pin. Lay the sensor straight against the steering shaft, connect it to the adapter and bearings and secure it with a connector. There should be a foam ring (4) in the front along with a pin hole (7) for the centering pin, a flushed rotor flange cuff (6) and an alignment mark (5) to guide the sensor's installation. If you are reusing the sensor, ensure the marks on the flange cuff are aligned as you install it and during seating of the sensor.
