Specifically, the Rocker Arm in Chevrolet Metro plays an important component of the engine's valvetrain system and through the operation, the Rocker Arm is able to transmit the force originating from the pushrod to the compensate for movement of the intake and exhaust valves. Made often of stamped steel or aluminium the Rocker Arm is used to transform the up and down movement of the pushrod into the appropriate force to open the valves. While aluminum is used in high RPM application because of its light weight nature, cast iron or forged carbon steel is used in heavy duty diesel engines. Rocker Arms could be of different styles such as traditional Rocker Arms, and Roller Rocker Arms, in Chevrolet Metro models. The roller rockers can be incorporated with needle bearings that thereby minimize on friction and wear making them ideal for the overhead valve and overhead camshaft models. The rocker ratio which currently ranges from 1.5:1 to 1.8:1 in modern engines enable the engine realize more camshaft lift thus enhancing efficiency. Other parts where improved fulcrum bearings are also applied are Chevrolet Metro engines particularly those that have high RPM to address certain stress and increase the lifespan of engines.

  • Q: How to service and repair the rocker arm assembly on Chevrolet Metro?
    A:
Service and repair of the Rocker Arm assembly begins by disconnecting both the negative Battery Cable followed by the positive Battery Cable and then removing the battery from the battery tray. The next step requires Camshaft removal followed by unattachment of the intake rocker arms from the rocker-arm shaft. Uninstall the 6 bolts that hold the rocker-arm shaft in place before extricating the shaft from the Cylinder Head while carefully detaching all exhaust rocker arms and springs from their position on the shaft. During installation the user must apply clean engine oil to both the Rocker Arm shaft and the rocker arms. Place the rocker-arm shaft inside the Cylinder Head with holes oriented properly before installing the exhaust rocker arms with their proper position. After proper installation of the rock-arm shaft bolts, users must torque them to 11 nm (97 inch lbs.). Next the sequence should begin with installing intake rocker arms onto the rocker-arm shaft before adding the Camshaft. To finish the procedure install the battery and proceed with connecting the positive cable followed by the negative cable.
