Chevrolet Monte Carlo Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Line Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Line on Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: Vehicle elevation along with suspension support becomes necessary to complete automatic transmission oil cooler pipes replacement while placing a drainage pan underneath the vehicle. Thoroughly disconnect the transaxle by removing its retaining bracket bolt and detaching the hoses installation. The lower radiator air deflector should first be removed along with disconnecting the oil cooler pipes from their radiator fittings. The process requires pulling back the plastic cap from the fitting by two inches before using a bent-tip screwdriver to rotate and remove the retaining ring. Pull out the oil cooler pipe directly from the fitting after discarding its retaining ring. Recover all oil pipes as well as the clip bolt and retaining ring (E-clip) before removing the pipes from the vehicle. Installation requires new retaining rings exclusively where you should position one ring end into a slot on the quick connect fitting until all three ears sit correctly. The installer must verify that plastic caps cover both oil cooler line ends right before assembly. Push the oil cooler pipe into position until you hear or feel a distinct clicking sound and finish the securement by tugging on it. After inserting the plastic cap onto the fitting avoid manual retaining ring depression to create a proper seal that shows no gaps and conceals the yellow identification band. Replace both the retaining ring and pipe end when the cap fails to sit correctly into position. To finish the repairs first install the transaxle oil cooler hoses on the transaxle and secure the clip bolt with 4 nm (27 inch lbs.) torque and reposition the lower radiator air deflector, lower the vehicle, check fluid levels and examine the maintenance quality and search for leaks.
