  Q: How to replace the Wheel Speed Sensor on a Chevrolet SSR?

  A: Begin replacement of the Wheel Speed Sensor by lifting the vehicle then removing the tire and wheel and brake rotor. Disconnect the electrical connector of the speed sensor wiring harness by first detaching the retention hardware. Pull out the sensor directly from its bore slot after unscrewing its mounting screw but avoid using any screwdriver or prying tools because they might break the sensor body. Do not attempt to remove the stainless steel shim from the bearing assembly, as it is permanently attached; bearing failure requires immediate replacement because it leads to reduced performance of sensors and abs functions. During sensor extraction users need to prevent any lubricant contamination within the sealed bearing housing. After removing the Wheel Speed Sensor from the hub and bearing assembly, install the new speed sensor, which comes with a new o-ring; discard the previous o-ring before applying a thin layer of bearing grease to the new o-ring while avoiding grease contact with the bore. Fasten the speed sensor mounting screw with a torque of 17 nm (12 ft. Lbs.). Reconnect the electrical connector and use new mounting clips to connect the wiring harness but avoid using damaged clips again.
