Chevrolet Suburban 1500 Power Steering Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Steering Reservoir on Chevrolet Suburban 1500?
A: As a first step in replacing off-vehicle power steering reservoirs you should drain power steering fluid from the pump. Begin the replacement process by removing and then the Power Steering Pump mounting studs and eventually the connector and fitting assembly of the o-ring seal. When needed you should remove both the control valve assembly and flow control spring from inside the pump housing assembly. The reservoir assembly should be separated from the pump housing assembly then the o-ring seals and together with the magnet must be cleaned before removal. The Power Steering Pump housing must receive replacement if the welch plug in its housing becomes deformed or dislodged even when not removed for inspection. Lubrication of o-ring seals and requires power steering fluid with new o-ring seals for assembly. Place the flow control spring at the pump housing assembly before adding the control valve assembly onto the spring. The pump housing assembly needs installation of o-ring seals which are then followed by placement of magnet into position. The technician should put together the reservoir assembly with the pump housing assembly before installing the o-ring seal. The next procedure is to secure the connector and fitting assembly to the pump housing while also connecting the pump mounting studs to the same housing. Fasten the mounting studs with 57.5 n.m (44 lb ft) torque and the connector with a force of 75 n.m (55 lb ft).
