Chevrolet Suburban 1500 Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the upper intermediate steering shaft on Chevrolet Suburban 1500?
A: The first step to replace the upper intermediate Steering Shaft starts with installing the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) into the Steering Column lower access hole. Ideally measure the bolt-clamp relationships at the upper intermediate shaft's both ends along with its alignment with the lower intermediate shaft to maintain correct integration. Remove first the lower shaft to upper shaft connection nut and bolt followed by the upper shaft to Steering Column connection nut and bolt. Drive the intermediate shaft downward through the Steering Column interface before removing the accelerator pedal position sensor. Pull the upper intermediate shaft towards the instrument panel while it exits the lower intermediate shaft to extract the shaft from the vehicle. When reusing the same upper intermediate shaft during installation replace the bulkhead lower end into the lower shaft and maintain the alignment of the removal marks. Dress the upper end of the upper intermediate shaft on the Steering Column before tightening it with a bolt and nut to 47 n.m (35 lb ft). Secure the connection of the upper intermediate shaft with the bolt and nut to the lower intermediate shaft before reinstalling the accelerator pedal position sensor. Securely tighten the nut to 47 n.m (35 lb ft). Use tools to extract the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the Steering Column lower access hole.
