Setting the front wheels at a straight position while locking the steering wheel must come first when replacing the steering wheel position sensor. Disable operation of the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Disassemble the upper intermediate shaft connection by unbolted the nut then removing bolt while guiding down the Steering Shaft intermediate. A suitable tool should be used to disconnect the position sensor connector by dragging it downward toward the
Steering Column's right side. Keep all pressures off both the sensor and bearing components. Extract the position sensor combined with bearings straight out of the Steering Column jacket before dislodging the sensor from its clips on the bearing assembly. Place the position sensor into bearing assembly without applying any side pressure before inserting the bearing fully into the Steering Column jacket while aligning its notches. After connecting the position sensor connector make sure to carefully follow the fastener notice in service precautions. Gently slide the shaft until both the bolt and nut reach their position at the upper intermediate shaft to Steering Column junction point. Then torque the connection to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). Finally, enable the sir system.
