Chevrolet Suburban 2500 Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the power steering pump on Chevrolet Suburban 2500?
A: A drain pan should be placed underneath the vehicle before starting the power steering pulley removal process. You need to remove both the nut and clamp which fasten the filler neck to the Power Steering Pump when this feature is present. The first step is to remove bolts from in front of the pump before removing the ones securing the power steering mounting bracket and finally taking off the bolts from the pump's rear. Disconnect the pump hoses before removing the power steering unit from the vehicle unless your vehicle uses variable effort steering since you will need to disconnect the electrical connector. The Power Steering Pump requires removal of its rear retaining bracket. After attaching the rear bracket to the Power Steering Pump start tightening its retaining bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the Power Steering Pump within the vehicle while you connect the hoses correctly before tightening the hose fittings to 28 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Place the bolts at the rear of the Power Steering Pump then apply torque to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.), after reattaching electrical connectors to vehicles with variable effort steering. The next step requires you to install the Power Steering Pump mounting bracket followed by tightening the mounting bracket bolts at 46 nm (34 ft. Lbs.). First install the Power Steering Pump onto the bracket before fixing the front bolts at 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Add the Power Steering Pump filler neck first then fasten it using both the nut and clamp before securing the retaining nut to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). The power steering system completion requires you to fill it up before bleeding out impurities.
