Chevrolet Suburban 2500 Power Steering Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Steering Reservoir on Chevrolet Suburban 2500?
A: You need to drain the power steering fluid from the Power Steering Pump before starting replacement of the off-vehicle Power Steering Reservoir. The vehicle owner should remove the mounting studs on the pump as well as the connector and fitting assembly. You should remove the variable assist steering actuator together with its retaining ring. Separate the o-ring seal from both pieces of the connector and fitting assembly. You can remove the control valve assembly together with the flow control spring from the pump housing assembly. Safely unbutton the reservoir assembly from the pump housing assembly before you remove both o-ring seals and a magnet for cleaning purposes. The Power Steering Pump housing requires an inspection of its welch plug while still in position without removal; ignore changing the Power Steering Pump housing if the welch plug remains undamaged or not out of place. Assemble the Power Steering Pump by integrating fresh o-ring seals which need to be lubricated with power steering fluid. Position the flow control spring with the control valve assembly onto the pump housing assembly before inserting both o-ring seals as well as the magnet component. Install the reservoir assembly to the pump housing assembly and place the o-ring seal between them. Install the pump mounting studs into the pump housing and secure the connector and fitting assembly at 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.) yet tighten the pump mounting studs to 58 nm (43 ft. Lbs.).
