Chevrolet Traverse Engine Control Module Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on Chevrolet Traverse?
A: The initial step before replacing the Engine Control Module (ECM) requires turning off the ignition since this action protects against possible damage. The remaining engine oil life and automatic transmission fluid life should be obtained with a scan tool for record purposes. Begin by removing the negative cable from the battery then proceed to disconnect middle and lower electrical connectors of the engine wiring harness from the ecm. When replacing the ecm bracket you must pull off the engine wiring harness clip from the ecm bracket tab. The installation requires disconnecting the upper electrical connector from the ecm while maintaining base contact with the pins in order to protect against electrostatic discharge damage. You can pull the ecm off the support brackets after lifting the retaining tab. You should remove the ecm bracket bolts along with the bracket itself when necessary. The installation process requires positioning the ecm bracket (when necessary) followed by adding bolts that should be tightened to 6 nm (53 lb in). Place the ecm under the retaining tab on the support tabs of the ecm bracket while you attach the upper electrical connector of the engine harness to the ecm. The engine wiring harness clip requires installation to the ecm bracket tab before connecting the middle and lower electrical connectors to the ecm. Reconnect the negative Battery Cable. Pm programming of a newly installed ecm becomes necessary to guarantee proper operational behavior of the system.
