Engine oil must drain completely before removing the Oil Filter to proceed with Oil Pan replacement. The first step requires removing the exhaust flexible pipe along with the engine and subsequently removing the engine front cover. Begin by unstucking the rtv sealant along the edge of the Oil Pan using pry points. Then remove the bolts holding the Oil Pan in place before you can pull the pan away from the block. The Oil Pan requires cleaning in addition to cleaning the engine block gasket surface. Before pan installation use the 8 mm (0.315 in) guides found in (EN 46109) to insert them into the engine block's center Oil Pan rail bolt hole on each side. The installation requires applying a 3 mm (0.118 in) bead of rtv sealant gm p/n 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148) or equivalent between the block pan rail and crankshaft rear oil seal housing. Spot the Oil Pan onto the block while removing the (EN 46109) guides. Knock the Oil Pan bolts loosely into place before applying proper torque to them using this precise sequence: tighten 8 mm bolts (1-11) to 23 nm (17 lb ft) while tightening 6 mm bolts (12, 13) to 10 nm (89 lb in). 8 mm bolts (1-11) to 23 nm (17 lb ft) and 6 mm bolts (12, 13) to 10 nm (89 lb in). Reinstall the front engine cover followed by the engine block before installing the flexible part of the exhaust system and completing engine oil refilling.
