Chevrolet Traverse Parking Brake Shoe Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Shoe on Chevrolet Traverse?
A: Vehicle support and tire removal begins by raising the vehicle. The rear brake rotor needs removal before proceeding to retract the park Brake Shoe adjuster to make replacement easier. You should first remove the upper park Brake Shoe retainer spring and then proceed to take off the park Brake Shoe adjuster. A compression and turning motion of the rear park Brake Shoe hold down spring allows removal of both components. The lower park Brake Shoe retainer spring also needs to come out before the rear park Brake Shoe . The process to remove the front park Brake Shoe hold down spring requires spring compression and rotation after which both the spring and the shoe can be taken off separately. The rear Brake Backing Plate requires cleaning treatment with denatured alcohol or an equivalent solvent after which it should be allowed to dry. Use high temperature brake lubricant to coat the Brake Backing Plate contact areas of the park brake shoes followed by front park Brake Shoe installation into the park brake actuator. Start by installing the front park Brake Shoe hold down spring through a compressing and rotating process followed by the rear park Brake Shoe installation and lower park Brake Shoe retainer spring installation at the right position in the park brake actuator. Install the rear park Brake Shoe hold down spring by compressing and rotating it, proceed with installing the park Brake Shoe adjuster followed by the upper park Brake Shoe retainer spring. Finally, adjust the park brake.
