GMC C2500 Steering Angle Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Steering Angle Sensor on GMC C2500?
A: Service and repair of the Steering Angle Sensor require setting both front wheels to straight-ahead alignment and locking the Steering Wheel in position. First disconnect the negative Battery Cable while also disabling the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR). Begin service by removing both pieces from the upper to lower Steering Shaft junction and pulling down the lower shaft. Use an appropriate tool to disconnect the position sensor connector by pulling it down from right to left across the Steering Column. When disconnecting maintain a vertical force vector and avoid applying pressure to the sensor and bearing from side-to-side. After pulling the position sensor and bearing assembly directly from the Steering Column jacket remove the position sensor from the assembly clips. To install the position sensor first position it within the bearing assembly before you set the bearing inside the Steering Column jacket while maintaining proper alignment between the bearing notches and jacket notches without applying any side pressure. Heat the bearing jacket until it is fully seated and join the position sensor connector and securely tighten the upper nut to 62 nm (46 ft. Lbs.). Rejoin the negative Battery Cable and turn on the sir system during the final step.
