GMC C3500 Control Arm Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the front upper control arm on GMC C3500?
A: In order to service and repair the front upper Control Arm, firstly raise the front end of the vehicle using the floor jack and floor stands before you place the jack under the lower Control Arm to prevent causing a personal injury. First, remove the tire and wheel and also the extension of air cleaner if necessary. Remove the nuts and screws that attach the brake hose bracket to the upper Control Arm then connect the hose out of the way. Next, remove the upper Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle then remove the attaching bolts and nuts of the upper Control Arm, and remove the upper Control Arm with the bushings checking all of them for wear and tear. For the installation, install new bushings first and then mount the upper Control Arm to the frame with the pivot bolt installed the correct way; note that the front nut should be tightened to the rear nut, and then secure the nuts to 190 nm (140 ft. Lbs.) with the Control Arm placed at z height. Attach the upper Ball Joint to the Steering Knuckle and the brake hose bracket to the upper Control Arm, and tighten the bracket screws and nuts to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Then reattach the brake hose to the bracket, the air cleaner extension if needed, and the tire and wheel assembly. Lastly, verify the wheel alignment of the front.
