GMC C3500 Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers
A: The initial step for shock absorber replacement requires both vehicle lifting and installation of safety stands for support. Start the procedure by removing both the tire and wheel assembly followed by the nut and washer before separating the shock absorber from the leaf spring spacer. The shock absorber frame should be separated from the frame by first removing the bolt and washer and then Verify the shock absorbers for any signs of damage or leakage. Install the shock absorber by putting the bolt through its upper bracket and shock absorber and set the washer and nut aside until installed. Position the lower shock mount onto the stud to join the shock absorber with the leaf spring spacer, before installing the washer followed by the nut. Tighten the upper nut to 185 Nm (136 ft. lbs.) at the same time as tightening the lower nut to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) torque. To complete the process replace the tire and wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle.
