The replacement process of the intake camshaft sprocket begins with camshaft cover removal. Before beginning the procedure rotate the Crankshaft clockwise while the #1 Piston moves to top dead center (TDC) compression position to achieve this orientation where "delphi" on the exhaust camshaft position actuator faces parallel to the Cylinder Head to cam cover mating surface. The adjacent Timing Chain link receives positioning marks from the intake camshaft sprocket timing mark as a starting point. Fit the camshaft holding tool (J 44221) at the back of the camshafts. Fasten the Timing Chain retention tools (EN-44217-45) by hooking their ends into nearby Timing Chain links at both engine sides until the wing-nuts reach maximum tightness while keeping the hooks embedded and gage blocks pressed against the head edges. Before cleaning the item remove and discard the intake camshaft sprocket bolt while also taking off the intake camshaft sprocket. During installation position the marked link on the Timing Chain to match the timing mark on the intake camshaft sprocket by using a 25 mm (1 inch) wrench on the hex of the camshaft for alignment. Place the intake camshaft sprocket on its respective location before tightening a new intake camshaft sprocket bolt to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). The angle meter (J 45059) needs to be used for rotating the intake camshaft sprocket bolt by 100 degrees. Put away the Timing Chain retention tools (EN-44217-45) together with the camshaft holding tool (J 44221) before returning the camshaft cover to its position.
