Pump the axle lubricant from the system into an appropriate receptacle. Check the rear axle cover gasket for any damage which could lead to ineffective sealing before deciding whether to replace or use it again. A suitable cleaner should be used to clean both the cover gasket and adjacent surfaces from the rear axle housing cover and rear axle housing. Secure the rear axle housing cover gasket while placing the rear axle housing cover into position and tighten the rear axle housing cover bolts in place. When installing the cover bolts in both 8.0 inch and 8.6 inch axles, a crosswise pattern should be used followed by torquing at 30 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) for the 8.0 inch axle and 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) for the 8.6 inch axle. The last step includes adding correct axle lubricant to the rear axle followed by lowering the vehicle.
