GMC Savana 1500 A/C Condenser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in the HVAC system on GMC Savana 1500?
A: An HVAC system condenser replacement begins with recovering the refrigerant from the A/C system. Start by taking off the grille then move on to remove both the discharge hose retaining nut and discharge hose from the condenser. Extract the condenser and its evaporator hose through removal of the evaporator hose retaining nut. First disconnect the electrical connector from the outside air temperature sensor and remove the outside air temperature bracket bolt to detach the bracket. Next, apply the hoses and condenser bolts to remove the condenser while ending each connection point with a fitting cap. When installing a new condenser, start by adding PAG oil as stated then take off the condenser fitting plugs and adjust new sealing washers. Use condenser retaining bolts to install the condenser and apply torque to 9 N.m (80 lb in). Begin by reinstalling the outside air temperature bracket with its bolt before you connect the outside air temperature sensor electrical connector. Fasten the evaporator hose to the condenser by affixing the evaporator hose retaining nut which requires both 16 N.m (12 lb ft) torque setting. Install both hoses starting with the discharge hose toward the condenser while using the discharge hose nut which must be tightened to 16 N.m (12 lb ft). Reinstall the grille, evacuate and recharge the A/C system before conducting a Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) test on all fitted components.
