In order to service and repair the lifter/Lash Adjuster, the necessary tool is the valve lifter remover (J 3049). First, remove the lower
Intake Manifold, valve
Rocker Arms and valve
Pushrods, taking care to take them and put them on a rack to install them back in their original positions. Then unbolt and remove the valve lifter Pushrod guide leaving careful to put valve lifting to the rack upright to keep oil in it. Continue using the remove valve lifters, some of which may be gummed up with gum and varnish deposits that may require the use of the valve lifter remover (J 3049). Clean any varnish from the valve lifter long bores with a bucket containing a cleaning solvent and a shop towel, and examine the bores for unusual wear or scoring, changing the engine block if required. Also eye the
Camshaft for wear or damage, putting it out if the camwear is questionable. Clean and verify the valve lifters and valve Pushrod guide prior to installing. Apply lubricant gm p/n 12345501 or other viscous injector oil tail to valve lifter rollers, and when replacing the valve lifters, put them back from the original. Install the valve lifter Pushrod guides with a final thread of guide bolts to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.), then install the valve rocker arms and pushrods and have the lower Intake Manifold reinstalled. It is normal during the perspective lifting to create a little ticking noise while it is the first time when the engine is started. The oil pressure could be increased slightly by raising rpm of the engine to remove the noise.
