GMC Savana 1500 Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the power steering pump on 4.3, 5.0, and 5.7L engines on GMC Savana 1500?
A:
The replacement of power steering pumps on 4.3 5.0 and 5.7l engines begins with using the power steering pulley remover (J 25034-C) to separate the power steering pulley from the vehicle. The vehicle should have a drain pan positioned underneath it so technicians can disconnect power steering pressure and return hoses and reservoir outlet hose attachments from the pump while using end caps to cover all components against dirt ingress. Start by disconnecting the Power Steering Pump mounting bolts until completing the accessory mounting bracket bolts. Finally loosen the nuts to pull out the Power Steering Pump from its position. Secure the pump with rear bracket by tightening it up to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Install the pump assembly to the engine by using bolts and tighten each to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Next, position the accessory mounting bracket into place and bolt it down along with the nut by torquing both elements to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) respectively 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Heat the power steering pressure hose fitting then connect it to the pump before tightening it to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Conduct hose retention using a clamp on the power steering return hose and perform a similar operation for the reservoir outlet hose. You can install the pulley onto the pump shaft through the use of the Power Steering Pump pulley installer (J 25033-C). Add power steering fluid through the system while continuing the bleeding process before taking away the drain pan beneath the car.
