The service and repair of fuel injectors needs the Fuel Injector assembly removal tool (J 43013) among other specified tools. Start by removing the
Fuel Rail assembly before removing both components of the retainer clip and the injector from its mounted position at the Fuel Rail pad. Remove the injector retainer clip and both o-ring seals of the injector (2 and 4) from each end of the component and dispose of them. Service professionals must first obtain the proper Fuel Injector for their application because the Fuel Injector assembly bears part number identification and four-digit build date code which reveals month of manufacture along with day, year and manufacturing shift. Clean engine oil must be used to lubricate the new injector o-ring seals (2, 4) before they are installed onto the injector. Stand up a new retainer clip on the injector so you can push the Fuel Injector into its socket located in the Fuel Rail while maintaining the electrical connector on the outward facing side. Verify that the retaining clip engages the flange on the Fuel Rail socket. Reinstall the Fuel Rail assembly as the last step of the process.
