The replacement of Fuel Rail assembly begins with a step of relieving fuel system pressure before removing the wire harness bracket nut. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) purge solenoid electrical connector as well as the generator electrical connector and manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor and Knock Sensor. Pull out the Knock Sensor harness connector from its position on the
Intake Manifold and break the connector position assurance lock free. Disconnect the main coil and fuel injector electrical connectors from their location and note them before disassembly so they can be reinstalled properly. Also remove the harness clips from the Fuel Rail. The operation on the fuel injector electrical connectors starts by lifting the cpa retainer then pushing the tab to disconnect the connector. Detach both the positive crankcase ventilation hose and remove the fuel pipe which feeds the Fuel Rail. The successful removal of the Fuel Rail requires you to first loosen the crossover tube-to-right Fuel Rail bolt followed by removing all Fuel Rail bolts while being careful to protect the injector electrical connector terminals and spray tips. Keep the rail installation area contamination-free by using caps to seal fittings and by placing plugs in empty holes. The technicians should clean the Fuel Rail with a spray engine cleaner followed by removing and discarding the lower o-ring seal from each fuel injector. Clean engine oil should be used to lubricate new fuel injector lower o-ring seals before installing each seal onto an injector. Apply a 5 mm threadlock gm p/n 12345382 (Canadian PN 10953489) band on the Fuel Rail bolts before installing and torquing them to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Fitting the fuel feed pipe to the Fuel Rail while installing the pcv hose and connecting the fuel injector electrical connectors should follow correct reinstallation procedures. Install the main coil then fuel injectors to the engine wire harness. Fasten harness clips to the Fuel Rail followed by cpa retainers while the
MAP Sensor and Knock Sensor need to be connected with their harness connector to the Intake Manifold. After connecting the evap purge solenoid electrical connector with the generator electrical connector you must install the wire harness bracket nut which requires a torque of 5 n.m (44 lb in). First tighten the fuel fill cap before you reconnect the negative Battery Cable and perform the leak inspection by keeping the ignition on with engine off for 2 sec then letting it rest for 10 seconds before turning it on again to check for fuel leaks.
