    Q:
How to Service Front Coil Springs and Shock Absorber Using the CH-48845 Spring Compressor on GMC Sierra 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Only use the ch-48845 (Spring Compressor) in suspension component service to protect yourself because other tools do not provide sufficient strength for springs. The front shock absorber assembly must be placed inside the ch-48845 (Spring Compressor) but the upper retaining bracket adjustment must be correct to protect the front suspension mount when dealing with vehicles with electronic suspension control. Mount the shock absorber into the upper retaining bracket of ch-48845 to achieve proper middle location before using ch-48845 to compress the front spring. When installing the appropriate wrench near the shock absorber shaft you should discard the old shock absorber nut and replace it with a new one. Start by removing the front lower shock absorber together with the front spring lower insulator before proceeding to take off the front suspension strut mount and front spring upper seat and front suspension strut bumper and front spring upper insulator. End with removal of the front suspension spring from the spring compressor. The front suspension structure components should be assembled inside the spring compressor with the inboard studs close to one another but the outboard stud facing outward to maintain appropriate alignment. Position the spring seat stop along with the outboard stud and lower strut mount center at the notch marked to the right side of the outboard stud. Follow the correct height adjustment of the ch-48845 (Spring Compressor) upper retaining bracket for all vehicles with electronic suspension setup. Place the shock absorber inside the upper retaining bracket of the ch-48845 spring compressor while using the tool to compress the front spring and to grip the shock absorber shaft with an appropriate wrench. Tighten the new shock absorber nut to a torque of 50 nm (37 lb ft) on vehicles with electronic suspension while the electrical connector requires a torque of 17 nm (13 lb ft). Vehicles without electronic suspension should have a shock absorber nut torque of 60 nm (44 lb ft). Put the shock absorber assembly into the vehicle once you have taken it out from the spring compressor.
