Beginning the hood primary latch cable replacement involves performing these initial steps: first open the hood and then remove the left front headlamp. Secure the Hood Latch using a temporary block to avoid locking during new cable installation. Begin by disconnecting the Hood Cable from the latch mechanism then disassembling the front fender upper diagonal brace. Follow either the 3.6l or 3.8l engine procedures to correctly remove the air cleaner. A wire along with a string will help you install the new cable inside the engine area after tying them at the hood release cable end. First dismantle the Hood Cable retainers on the engine compartment side rail. Then pull back the carpet to expose the Hood Cable before disassembling the handle and its cable. You need a flat-bladed small tool to detach the grommet of the dash panel featuring the Hood Cable removal from inside the dash panel. When installing the Hood Cable you must pass the cable and wire through the dash panel grommet after applying strip caulk sealer to the grommet surface. Follow these steps to mount the hood release handle while connecting its cable. First remove the carpet and next fasten the Hood Cable retainers to the engine compartment side rail. The cable must pass through the radiator support for safe reinstallation of the air cleaner based on engine requirements. Begin by hooking up the front fender upper diagonal brace while you install the hood release cable to the Hood Latch followed by installation of the left front headlamp. Check the Hood Latch with the block removed to verify its proper functioning before reinstalling the hood.

Start the replacement of Hood Cable by first opening the hood then removing the left front headlamp. The Hood Latch should stay blocked while the new cable installation takes place. Detach the Hood Cable from the latch mechanism before proceeding to remove the front fender upper diagonal brace together with the air cleaner. A wire or string must be attached to the Hood Cable end in order to help with installation while keeping it within the engine compartment. You should detach the Hood Cable retainers at the engine compartment side rail then pull back the carpet to reach the cable before removing the Hood Cable handle and its respective cable. The removal requires a flat small tool to separate the dash panel grommet before proceeding to extract the Hood Cable from the dash panel. To install the Hood Cable users must tie a string or wire to it before pulling it to the grommet opening in the dashboard panel where they should apply strip caulk sealer to the grommet. Install the hood handle after connecting the cable to it. After pulling back the carpet a second time you should fasten each Hood Cable retainer to the side rail of the engine compartment. The cable needs to run under the radiator support before putting back the air cleaner and front fender upper diagonal brace while hooking up the Hood Cable to its designated latch position. As the concluding step reinstall both the left front headlamp while removing the block from the Hood Latch then verify the latch functions correctly before you close the hood.

Block the hood latch until the new cable is installed.

Detach the hood latch release cable from the latch mechanism and remove the front fender upper diagonal brace.

Seat the hood release cable grommet into the cowl and connect the cable to the hood release handle.

Disconnect the hood release cable from the hood latch and remove the carpet retainer.

Close the hood and pull the string and the hood release cable into the engine compartment.

Transfer the string to either end of the new hood release cable and route both into the passenger compartment, then remove the string.

Disconnect the hood release cable from the hood release handle and tie a piece of string around the cable to facilitate installation through the passenger compartment.

Remove the hood release cable grommet from the dash panel, noting the cable's routing.
