    Q:
How to replace the parking brake cable on GMC Envoy? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement of a Parking Brake Cable should begin with disabling the park brake automatic adjuster followed by securely raising the vehicle. Separate the rear propeller shaft before detaching the park brake cables from their position on the parking brake equalizer. The tool j 37043 which is called Parking Brake Cable release tool allows users to safely detach the park brake cable. A pole jack and block of wood should support the Fuel Tank during maintenance since the tank does not need any removal for left park brake cable service. The shield covering the Fuel Tank and the rear support bracket should be removed before lowering the Fuel Tank to expose the rear park brake cable retainer. Remove the park brake cable retaining nuts by detaching them from underbody mounting studs then remove the cable from the respective retainers. First detach the bolt and retainer from the frame at the park brake retaining bracket location before using a tool to press the retaining clips loose from the mounting bracket and the actuator. After threading the frame with the park brake cable you should extract it from the vehicle. New park brake cables need to be threaded over the Fuel Tank assembly before being drawn through the frame structure. Secure the retaining nuts to the underbody mounting studs by tightening them to 10 nm (7 ft. Lbs.). After that raise the Fuel Tank to reinstall the rear support bracket. Begin with removing the pole jack and block of wood then connect the park brake cable to the actuator while pushing down the retaining clips. Attach the park brake retainer followed by the retaining bracket bolt and tighten them to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the rear propeller shaft while connecting the park brake cables to retainers and the parking brake equalizer. After these steps lower the vehicle you should activate the automatic park brake adjuster before testing its operation then make required adjustments to the park brake shoes.
