    Q:
How to replace the rear disc brake backing plate on Buick Rainier? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for backing plate replacement of rear disc brake is to lift the vehicle and take off the tire and wheel assembly. The maintenance process begins with disconnection of the park brake cable from the rear brake caliper which needs to be followed by brake caliper and bracket assembly separation and finally removal of the rear brake rotor. The procedure now demands elimination of the park brake shoe together with the rear drive axle components. Detach and remove the backing plate retaining nuts followed by backing plate removal from the housing of the rear axle. To put in place the backing plate apply it to the axle housing flange before tightening backing plate nuts to 135 nm (100 ft. Lbs.). As part of reinstallation install the park brake shoe followed by the rear drive axle accompanied by the rear brake rotor and brake caliper and bracket assembly. Start by reattaching the brake cable to the rear brake caliper then adjust the park brake shoe before putting the tire along with wheel back on the vehicle and allowing it to lower.

    Q:
How to replace the rear disc brake backing plate on Chevrolet SSR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before working on the Brake Backing Plate raise your vehicle and take off its wheel and tire assembly. Securing both left and right brake cables take priority when you remove their connections to the rear brake caliper's park brake system. Start by taking off the brake caliper unit with bracket and then disconnect the rear rotor and park brake shoe. First you need to empty the rear drive axle and its mounting bolts from the backing plate before taking off the backing plate from the axle housing. Position the backing plate on the axle housing flange and tighten its nuts to 135 nm (100 ft. Lbs) using the backing plate nuts. Install the drive axle first then put back the park brake shoe and rotor before placing the brake caliper and bracket components. Link the park brake cable to the rear brake caliper while adjusting the park brake shoe correctly. Put back both parts and carefully lower the vehicle.
