    Q:
How to Remove and Replace a Parking Brake Cable on the Left Side (JH6, JH7) on GMC Sierra 3500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for replacing the left side rear parking brake cable (JH6, JH7) involves freeing the park brake while disabling the automatic adjuster of the park brake cable. The left park brake cable needs to be disconnected from its intermediate cable connector by creating a 3 mm (1/8 in) hole through the dimple area of the connector. The left park brake cable requires release from the equalizer by compressing cable conduit locking tabs then pulling the cable in a rearward direction. Start the installation by taking out both the park brake cable clip bolt and disconnecting the park brake cable eye from the park brake actuator lever. Pull the cable conduit rearward to minimize the spring while sliding out of the bracket. Remove the park brake cable from the bracket. Reinstallation of the left park brake cable eye at the park brake actuator lever should be performed by first inserting the conduit into the axle bracket through pulling force that compresses the cable spring. During this process verify that the locking tabs fully engage in their positions. Fasten and tighten the park brake cable clip bolt until it goes to 22 N.m (16 lb ft). Pass the park brake cable conduit through the equalizer while making sure all locking tabs are in place, after which install the left rear park brake cable onto the intermediate cable connector . From this point enable the automatic adjuster on the park brake cable while you need to adjust its position.
