    Q:
How to replace the left rear parking brake cable on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
It is necessary to begin the left rear Parking Brake Cable replacement by releasing the parked vehicle and properly securing it. First remove the adjusting nut on the park brake cable and then disconnect both the front park brake cable along with the left rear park brake cable from the equalizer. To replace the cable on long wheelbase vehicles start by disconnecting the frame rail connection of the cable at the left side while also removing the bolt retaining the rear park brake cable. In addition to left frame rail removal of the Parking Brake Cable, short wheelbase vehicle owners must follow the same procedure. After removing the left frame rail park brake cable retainer one should progress by removing the retaining nut located at the left rear Leaf Spring then uninstall the left rear park brake cable retaining bracket. Detach the park brake cable from the backing plate while holding it with the j 37043 tool prior to taking out the rear brake shoes. Reinstall the rear brake shoes after you put the new park brake cable into position inside the backing plate. Tighten the retaining nut of the rear Leaf Spring park brake cable to 9 nm (80 lb in) while attaching the cable to its bracket. The left rear frame rail needs retaining bolts to hold the park brake cable up while they become tightened to 9 nm (80 lb in). Short wheelbase vehicles need the installation of their park brake cable into the retaining bracket followed by tightening this bolt to 9 nm (80 lb in). A second such installation takes place in the retaining bracket for vehicles with long wheelbases. The left rear park brake cable requires connection to the park brake equalizer then the front park brake cable and ending with installation of the adjuster nut. Use the necessary method to adjust the park brake before lowering down the vehicle.
