Begin by removing the adjusting nut for the park brake and then take out the front park brake cable from the equalizer before separating the right park brake cable. When working on short wheelbase vehicles, use the same process to remove the right park brake cable which is currently held by the left frame rail retainer. Long wheelbase vehicles require the same method. The retaining bolt of the right park brake cable needs removal before detaching the park brake cable from both the crossmember and right rear frame rail. The cable requires removal both from the right rear spring bracket retaining nut as well as from the retaining bracket itself. The j 37043 tool enables you to separate the park brake cable from its backing plate installation. After placing the park cable in the backing plate install the rear brake shoes before continuing. Secure the park brake cable at the rear spring retaining bracket using a retaining nut that needs to be tightened to 9 nm (80 lb in). Attach the park brake cable retaining bolts onto the right rear frame rail until tightened to 9 nm (80 lb in). Then install the cable to the crossmember. The park brake cable needs installation to the left frame rail of vehicles with long wheelbase at a torque of 9 nm (80 lb in) followed by bolting. The park brake cable for short wheelbase vehicles should be connected to the left frame rail while securing the retaining bolt at 9 nm (80 lb in). After connecting the park brake cable to the equalizer it is necessary to attach the front park brake cable then install the adjuster nut loosely before adjusting the park brakes and lowering the vehicle.
