Intermediate Cable

The first step when replacing the park brake cable requires releasing the park brake and supporting the vehicle elevation. Start by taking off the threaded end nut from the intermediate cable then detach the equalizer from rear park brake cables while also separating the intermediate cable from the front cable before removing the cable. Begin installation by placing the intermediate cable then add it to the front parking brake cable before moving to the equalizer connection process of the rear cables. Install the nut onto the threaded end portion of the intermediate cable before tightening it to 3.5 Nm which converts to 31 inch lbs. The complete installation process ends by taking off safety stands before lowering the vehicle while adjusting the park brake system.

Starting the replacement of the front parking brake cable requires releasing the parking brake and removing the park brake lever. You can access the cable grommet by rolling back the carpet then raise and support the vehicle in place. The grommet must come off as well as the cable from the floor pan before removing the front cable from the intermediate cable by depressing the retaining tabs. First remove the cable and then replace it by fastening the retainer tabs into the body mount before attaching the front cable to the intermediate cable and guiding the cable through the floor pan to reach the grommet. The worker must replace the carpet followed by the park brake lever installation after vehicle lowering and safety stand removal. Complete the adjustment of the park brake system before finishing.

Repair and servicing for the left rear parking brake cable starts by releasing the parking brake and then raising and supporting the vehicle. The tension build-up on park brake cables decreases when the nut at the equalizer gets loosened then the cable is disconnected at the equalizer. Pull out the cable from the mounting bracket after lowering its locking tabs while removing the bolt which secures it at the shock absorber bracket. Continue with cable removal beginning with the lever then backing plate through tab depression before the cable can be fully extracted. The installation of the new cable requires proper body mount and guide routing followed by cable placement at the backing plate until all locking tabs lock into position. Fitting the cable to the lever requires install it at the shock absorber bracket by following bolt-tightening procedures to 25 N.m (18 lb ft) before securing the mounting bracket when the locking tabs snap into position. You should connect the cable end to the equalizer while tightening the equalizer intermediate cable nut just to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in). If the vehicle mounting stands are removed you must lower the vehicle and tune the park brake cable.

Connect the cable to the lever, ensuring proper routing again, and then attach it to the backing plate (25 series) and the lever.

Remove the rear brake cable mounting bracket bolt and detach the brake cable from the lever.

Pull it down in front of the equalizer and disconnect it from the equalizer bar.

Secure the cable to the track bar with clips, ensuring they are installed between the locators on the track bar.

Attach the cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs engage.
