    Q:
How to replace the front brake calipers on Chevrolet HHR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Unless the brake master cylinder reservoir contains less than half its fluid capacity you should remove excess fluid before starting brake caliper replacement. Lift up the vehicle and take off the tire and wheel unit. Replace the rotor to hub by hand-tightening two wheel nuts between opposite wheel studs. Secure a c-clamp on top of the brake caliper housing then tighten it until the piston can move through the brake rotor. Take the clamp off afterward. Take off the brake hose fitting bolt then remove both brake hose fitting gaskets and brake hose before plugging the brake system to avoid fluid leaks. Discard the removed parts. Take out the brake caliper guide pin bolts then pull off the caliper from its bracket. Check if guide pins move properly and replace them plus the boots when needed. Place the caliper on the bracket and fasten its guide pins with torque at 35 nm (26 lb ft). Connect the brake hose fitting hardware along with gaskets onto the brake hose. Afterward attach the hose assembly to the caliper and torque the bolt to 40 nm (30 lb ft). Let the hydraulic brake system air out then disconnect the wheel nuts as you reinstall the tire wheels. Lower the car and press the Brake Pedal slowly from zero to two thirds distance with the engine off. Repeat this three times to help brake caliper pistons settle.
