    Q:
Why is burnishing the brake pads and brake discs essential after servicing the brake disc system on Chevrolet Cobalt? Posted by Customer
    A:
Making sure to burnish the brake pads and brake discs is important after a disc brake service, especially if the brake discs have been refinished or replaced, or the brake pads have been changed. Make sure you are on a gentle roadway with almost no vehicles, then gently increase the car's speed to 48 km/h (30 mph). Take care that the brakes do not get too hot while burning in the brake pads. Press down firmly on the brake pedal, but not so much that the brakes lock, to slow and stop the car. Keep doing the acceleration and braking process until the vehicle has come to a stop approximately 20 times, making sure there is enough time for cooling between each stop.
