How to Service and Repair Brake Calipers on Chevrolet Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start brake caliper service and repair by emptying all brake fluid and working carefully while compressing air to remove the pistons. Set the brake caliper in place using the engine support fixture (J41358-B) for stable holding. Push wood through the caliper while protecting it with a towel and send non-lubricated filtered air to eject the pistons. When one Piston does not exit position the removed Piston first then put a wood block between the Piston and the caliper before tightening the c-clamp and applying air pressure again. Using tools made for the task remove pistons and Piston seals from the brake caliper while also removing the bleeder valve cap and valve from the housing. Use denatured alcohol to clean all parts then clean with filtered compressed air. Replace the pistons or brake caliper when you find material loss, chemical reactions, eating away, or physical damage to the Piston parts. Apply filtered lubricated compressed air to clean the brake caliper assembly and then apply denatured alcohol to wipe it dry. Place one Piston bore at a time into clean dot-3 brake fluid right before you put in the dust and Piston seals while keeping the Piston vertically aligned. Install the Piston dust seal using the universal driver handle (J8092) and boot seal installer (J45863) along with installing and tightening the bleeder valve to 19 nm (14 ft. Lbs.). Close the process by replacing the bleeder valve cap.
