    Q:
How to replace the front brake calipers on Chevrolet Cobalt? Posted by Customer
    A:
Drivers should follow these steps to replace their front brake caliper. They must first raise and stabilize the vehicle before removing the tire and wheel assembly. Remove the brake hose fitting bolt while unfastening brake hose fitting gaskets which need to be discarded from the brake hose . Protect the brake hose fitting through capping while removing front disc brake pads from their position. After that step remove the brake caliper bolts to detach the brake caliper from the wheel knuckle. Apply threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) on caliper bolts threads extending to 2/3 length, let cure for 10 minutes. After cleaning caliper bolt threads and knuckle mounting holes, proceed with the installation. Attach the brake caliper to the wheel knuckle whereas the brake caliper bolts require a torque of 130 nm (96 lb ft). Attach the brake hose assembly to the brake caliper by tightening the fitting bolt to 40 nm (30 lb ft) strength using new copper brake hose gaskets and new fitting gaskets on the brake hose fitting bolt. Reassemble front disc brake pads before performing hydraulic brake bleeding and applying gradual brake pressure for 2/3 of pedal travel and releasing it slowly. Allow the Brake Pedal to stay engaged for 15 seconds then perform the process again until the Brake Pedal maintains firmness to properly position the brake caliper pistons with the pads. Lower the car following tire and wheel reinstallation.
