    Q:
How to replace the front disc brake pads on Chevrolet HHR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before handling the brake caliper check the master cylinder reservoir fluid level and drain fluid if the level stands above the center marker mark. Lift the vehicle and take off its tire and wheel unit from its position. Screw down two wheel nuts tightly opposite each other into wheel studs to hold the rotor onto the hub properly. Use a c-clamp to compress the caliper piston between its two ends after positioning them at the back of the caliper and over the outer Brake Pad. Adjust the clamp until it squeezes the piston. Put down the c-clamp. Lift out the lower brake caliper guide pin bolt and wire the brake caliper securely to stop damaging the hose assembly. Lift and support the brake caliper then pull out the inboard Brake Pad while checking its wear sensor position. After removing the outboard Brake Pad and retaining clips install them the same way. Examine the parts that secure the disc brake assembly to its location and hardware components. Cover rub surface of caliper bracket hardware with thin silicone brake lubricant before fitting Brake Pad retainers onto the mount. Position the Brake Pad with the sensor on board next to the rotor so its leading edge points toward the rotor during wheel motion. Insert both brake pads into their correct positions before lowering the brake caliper back into place. Put the lower brake caliper guide pin bolt in place and tighten it to 35 n.m (26 lb ft). Put the tire on the wheel first while removing the brake rotor wheel nuts then lower the vehicle. After turning off the engine press the brake pedal 2/3 of its full range and let it return to its original position. Periodically apply the brake pedal for 15 seconds at half-course pressure before adjusting the process until you feel a strong resistance from the brake pads. Complete the procedure by filling the master cylinder with brake fluid up to the mark then performing pad and rotor seating.
