First disable the sir system before replacing the air bag clock spring. Start by removing the steering column trim covers followed by detaching the wire harness assembly from the wire harness strap and taking off the three wire harness straps from the wire harness assembly. First disconnect the wire harness strap from the upper tilt head assembly before unclipping the sir steering wheel module coil retaining clip and extracting the sir steering wheel module coil. The wave washer needs to be removed from the steering column upper shaft. Install the block tooth on the upper shaft at 12 o'clock alignment while making sure all fasteners are tightened correctly before applying torque to prevent component failure. The wave washer assembly on the steering column upper shaft should be set in place but the sir steering wheel module coil needs to be centered because separation between the steering gear and column or downward force on the centering spring can cause misalignment. Fasten the pre-centered sir steering wheel module coil along the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam before mounting it onto the steering column upper shaft. Start by discarding the centering tab before you stretch the bottom coil assembly wire slowly to remove any kinks in the wire. Make sure the wire has no bends that might harm the shaft lock mechanism. Place the sir steering wheel module coil retaining ring on the upper shaft while making sure it fits properly into the groove. Reattach the wire harness assembly into the wire strap while also placing the wire harness strap into the wire strap and fastening the wire harness straps onto the wire harness assembly. The installation should end with reattaching the steering column trim covers and activating the sir system.

Begin the replacement process of the inflatable restraint steering wheel module air bag clock spring by disabling the sir system followed by steering column trim covers removal. To access the wire harness assembly remove it from the wire harness strap and uninstall the three wire harness straps from the assembly before removing the wire harness strap from the upper tilt head assembly. First remove the sir steering wheel module air bag clock spring retaining clip followed by the sir steering wheel module air bag clock spring before removing the wave washer from the steering column upper shaft. Base your installation by first aligning the block tooth on the upper shaft at 12 o'clock before tightening all fasteners to ensure component safety. Place the wave washer onto the steering column upper shaft while keeping the sir steering wheel module air bag clock spring in the center position because uncentering can happen if the steering column detaches from the gear or the centering spring is compressed. Use the proper centering methods for standard or tilt columns when the component is not centered. Position the sir steering wheel module air bag clock spring to match the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam before you install the pre-centered sir steering wheel module air bag clock spring onto the steering column upper shaft. Discard the centering tab after pulling gently on the wire attached to the lower coil assembly to remove kinks from the assembly so the shaft lock mechanism remains clear of interference. Use the sir steering wheel module air bag clock spring retaining ring to lock into the upper shaft groove then check that the ring sits firmly in place. The wire harness assembly should be reattached to the wire strap while the wire harness strap needs to be installed into the wire strap before securing the wire harness straps to the wire harness assembly. Complete the process by reinstalling the steering column trim covers then turning on the sir system.
