    Q:
How to replace the engine front timing cover on Chevrolet Avalanche 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to remove the engine front cover, first, disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector, and remove the Water Pump and crankshaft balancer. Then, the engine harness clips are to be removed from the battery cable channel and the cmp sensor bolt, and then the cmp sensor is to be removed. Then remove the battery cable-channel bolt and move the battery cable-channel. Unfasten the engine front cover bolts and the engine front cover while keeping in mind that the engine front cover gasket can be reused. Once the crankshaft front oil seal was removed from the front cover, install a new crankshaft front oil seal using the front cover oil seal installer (J 42851) and lubricate its sealing surface with clean engine oil. Use sealant gm p/n 12346286 (Canadian P/N 10953472) or gm equivalent in 2 locations on the engine block at the Oil Pan junction with the front cover. Install the engine front cover gasket in the front cover, in so doing observe the appropriate installation procedure in order to avoid the displacement of sealant. Let the pin, holding front cover, rest on the sealant while placing the front cover over the crankshaft, lifting it as going over the crankshaft o, and placing it on the dowel pin. Install and tighten the engine front cover bolts in the sequence first to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.) then to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Reposition battery cable channel, install and tighten the battery cable channel bolt to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Check the cmp sensor o-ring for any damage and replace it if needed and then apply a thin coat of clean engine oil to it before installing the cmp sensor and tightening the bolt it to 12 nm (106 inch lbs). At last, install the engine harness clips to the battery cable channel, reconnect to the cmp sensor electrical connection, and reinstall crankshaft balancer and Water Pump.

    Q:
How to replace the engine front timing cover on Chevrolet Silverado 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to change the cover of the engine you should remove the pump of water then remove the bolts of Oil Pan to the front cover and then bolts for the front cover. Next, remove the front cover and gasket and throw away the gasket used. If required, clean and check the engine front cover. Care must be taken never to reuse the crankshaft oil seal or front cover gasket and that sealant should not be used on the front cover gasket unless directed to do so. Applying a 5mm (0.20 inch) bead of sealant gm p/n12378190, or equivalent should be applied to the Oil Pan to engine block junction. Mount the new front cover gasket and cover, just tight enough with the front cover bolts without overtightening. Do this for Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts. Apply the front and rear cover alignment tool (J 41476) to properly align the crankshaft front oil seal so that all gasket surfaces are clean of oil or foreign matter. Tighten Oil Pan to front cover to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and engine front cover to 25 nm, (18ft. Lbs.). Remove the j41476 and then install new crankshaft front oil seal to finish with reinstalling the Water Pump.

    Q:
How to replace the engine front timing cover on Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
Engine replacement starts with taking out the Water Pump along with the crankshaft balancer before removing the Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts and front cover bolts. Then you should remove the front cover and gasket while discarding the old gasket. Before installation check the engine front cover for cleanliness and perform an inspection. Proper replacement requires both the crankshaft oil seal and front cover gasket to be discarded while any sealant must be used only if specifically stated. During assembly ensure all gasket surfaces are clean of foreign substances including oil before assembling while centering the crankshaft front oil seal to the crankshaft to avoid premature wear and oil leakage. The assembly includes adding a 5 mm (0.20 inch) long sealant bead 20 mm (0.80 inch) in length to the Oil Pan - engine block junction before installing the front cover gasket and cover. First tighten front cover bolts and Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts gently until they reach the appropriate torque but avoid over-tightening them. The front and rear cover alignment tool (J 41476) enables proper front cover alignment where tapered legs need to match the machined surfaces. Install a new crankshaft front oil seal before reinstalling the Water Pump after you tighten all Oil Pan to front cover bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and engine front cover bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.).

    Q:
How to replace the engine front timing cover on GMC Sierra 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
First obtain these essential tools to change the engine front cover: the front cover oil seal installer carries the j 42851 part number. Front cover oil seal installer (J 42851). Start by disconnecting and removing the Water Pump then disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector before removing engine harness clips from the battery cable channel. The next step requires removal of the cmp sensor bolt then the cmp sensor followed by unbolting the battery cable channel and repositioning the channel. Remove the engine front cover bolts next while keeping the reusable engine front cover gasket in mind before removing it altogether. We need to remove two items from the front cover: first the front cover gasket and second the Crankshaft front oil seal. To install the Crankshaft front oil seal you must use the front cover oil seal installer (J 42851) together with fresh engine oil for lubricating the sealing surface. Use gm p/n 12346286 sealant (Canadian P/N 10953472) in two locations on the engine block where the front cover touches the Oil Pan. Start by placing the engine front cover gasket into the front cover. Put the front cover on top of the Crankshaft so it rests on the sealant. When installing the engine front cover bolts use a sequence that requires initial torque to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.) followed by torque to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Position the battery cable channel into place before securing the cable channel bolt at 9 nm torque (80 inch lbs. Torque). Check the cmp sensor o-ring for damages before applying a minimal layer of clean engine oil to it. Install the sensor with its bolt maintaining a torque of 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Afterward install the engine harness clips then connect the cmp sensor electrical connector before reinstalling the Crankshaft balancer with the Water Pump.
