    Q:
How to remove and install the Ignition Lock Cylinder on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder requires the application of parking brake and disconnection of the negative Battery Cable. Start by taking out the console and ip accessory trim panel and driver knee bolster trim panel. To proceed you must disconnect the electrical connector from the retention tab on the Ignition Switch by inserting a key into the ignition and turning it to on position. Insert a flat bladed screwdriver or other suitable tool beneath the rh lower Ignition Lock Cylinder retaining tab and press down while holding it so you can remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder. Make a note of the Ignition Lock Cylinder wire's position around the Ignition Switch bezel base. Using great care detach the Ignition Switch bezel from its snap frames then remove it. When installing the parts combine the Ignition Switch bezel with the lock cylinder then place the wire around the base as done during the disassembly step while making sure bezel slots match lock cylinder pins before pushing it into place. Push the ignition key and lock cylinder into the Ignition Switch while pressing down until you hear an audible click from the retaining tab and ensure it stays engaged by attempting to remove it (it cannot come out). After turning off the ignition and removing the key begin by connecting the electrical connector to the Ignition Lock Cylinder and install this assembly at its retaining tab. Replace all components starting with the driver knee bolster trim panel and ip accessory trim plate followed by console installation. Next reconnect the negative Battery Cable with bolt torque set to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). The system requires transmission programming followed by removing the parking brake and assessing Ignition Lock Cylinder operations through key insertion while testing different positions to confirm key removal is possible only when the Ignition Switch reads off.
