2001 Chevrolet Corvette Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The first step to replace the Ignition Lock Cylinder requires users to activate the parking brake followed by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery. Start by disconnecting and removing the console and ip accessory trim plate together with the driver knee bolster trim panel. Start by unhooking the Ignition Lock Cylinder electrical connector from its retaining tab on the Ignition Switch. Then detach the connector as its next step. Turn the ignition key while holding down the on position. Depress the Ignition Lock Cylinder retaining tab on the rh lower side of the Ignition Switch using a flat bladed screwdriver before pulling out the lock cylinder while keeping track of how the wire is positioned around the switch bezel base. Unsnap the Ignition Switch bezel after using gentle hands to pull it away. To install the Ignition Switch bezel attach it to the lock cylinder and maintain wire position from extraction then align slots with pins before pushing it into place. The installation requires inserting the Ignition Lock Cylinder with key into the Ignition Switch then gently pressing until the retaining tab produces an audible click and the device becomes fully engaged. Isolate the ignition system by flipping on off. Remove the key and link the electrical connector followed by installing it to the retaining portion on the ignition unit. Replace all drivers' knee trim bolt together with the ip accessory and console extension panel. Fasten the negative Battery Cable with a 15 nm (11 lb. Ft.) torque setting. The transmitters require programming followed by parking brake release to examine ignition cylinder functionality through key insertion and testing of multiple ignition positions while maintaining key removal capability only in the off mode.
