Start by removing the tire wheel assembly before taking off the Rack and Pinion Boot. Adjusting the rack bearing preload must be avoided before removing the inner Tie Rod since this prevents harm to the pinion or steering rack. The shock dampener from the inner Tie Rod must be removed first before sliding it backward onto the rack. Use the j 34028 inner Tie Rod wrench (J 34028) to attach a wrench to the inner Tie Rod housing flats and unscrew it counterclockwise until the inner Tie Rod detaches from the rack assembly . The threads of the rack and inner Tie Rod must be cleaned to eliminate existing loctite. The threads of the inner Tie Rod require loctite 262 (or equivalent) before installing the rod to the Rack And Pinion assembly. A torque wrench should be used to apply 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.) of torque to the inner Tie Rod while locking the rack. Place the shock damper over the housing for the inner Tie Rod until it reaches full length against the housing wall. After replacing both the Rack and Pinion Boot along with the tire and wheel assembly you can reinstall them. Last steps include taking off safety stands then lowering the vehicle before checking wheel alignment.
