2001 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Installing a new rack and pinion boot begins with following the outer tie rod removal process for the vehicle. You must begin by removing the nut from the inner tie rod assembly then take off the tie rod clamp . Use side cutters to eliminate the boot clamp before you take off both the rack and pinion boot. Begin installation by securing the new boot clamp onto the rack and pinion boot while applying grease to the inner rod and gear assembly before putting the boot in position on the inner tie rod assembly. Check that the rack and pinion boot maintains its correct shape without any twisting; shape it with your hands if needed. Manually mold the boot into shape when required before mounting it inside the gear assembly groove. Attach the boot to the gear assembly before using the J 22610 Service Boot Clamp Installer (J 22610) to clamp and crimp the boot. Install the tie rod end clamp to the boot by using pliers before securing the jam nut onto the inner tie rod assembly while you replace the outer tie rod.
